Broken trash bags, melt-downs, and bed, bath, and beyond?

So, when is there a Hefty bag when you need one? Somehow the trash bag broke and everything went all over the floor, dinner was not quite done, and our little guy was melting down. I guess this is Parenting 101? The culmination of the last few days has now set in for Max; it was a hard day. We can't imagine how a three-year-old processes what he has just been through. It was off-set, however, by the very sweet bath time. He loved playing with some bath toys in our make-shift shower/tub and cuddling on his daddy's lap. Thankfully, as well, he walked by himself to bed, got in, and fell asleep within a few minutes...pretty cute.

Can I just brag on my wife for a moment? She was AMAZING with Max tonight--such a comfort to our son in the midst of it all. Of course, I'm sure this is not hard for most of you to imagine. :)

P.S. We heard some of you have been unable to post on our blog. Thanks for your e-mails and facebook message. We wish we could do something to change that. Checked our settings again tonight, but couldn't find anything. But we're about as technically illiterate as they come. Any help out there?!

  1. You are so right Jeff... not surprised at all at your wife being a great mom! Missing you and thankful to know as many details as possible, like broken trash bags! We love you and continue to pray continually with you. David (for Betsie too)

  2. Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping us updated daily. It makes us feel like we are right there with you (and if we were, we would have brought Hefty bags with us...ha!). We can't tell you how happy it makes us feel to know you three have such a strong connection already, how Max is already calling you his mommy and daddy and how you are starting to get into a routine of having a cute, sweet little one in the Unruh's life. Our hearts burst with joy and love for you.
We will be thinking of you tomorrow when we're at Grace.

    Love,

    Sonia and Rob

  3. Reading the Unruh update and praying for you three is a daily highlight. God's grace is definitely with you...and I'm sure you'll need plenty more! Max is obviously a gift of God's grace to you. Cherish every moment with just the three of you, even the difficult ones. God is doing something special in all of you!

  4. Ditto all the above! Missed having Jeff in the baptismal today, but Cindy, Rob and Dave did a bang-up job, of course. Celebrated a BEAUTIFUL adoption story as the grand finale :)

So here are a couple verses that have struck me several times this past week- oldy but goody (!), and so comforting and TRUE! May you FEEL it and know it to be true.
Lamentations 3:22-23 "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

  5. Have no trouble imagining you both doing an amazing job with Max. I(Ros) also loved you bragging on your sweet wife.:) One of the greatest gifts in parenting Keith and I have experienced is God giving one of us the energy and emotional reserve we need to stay present in a situation with the kids when the other parent is "done". We continue to pray that God gives you what you need and that through you God will give Max what he needs each moment. And it's ok if it's only one of you in a certain moment. :) We can only imagine how hard it is to be away from the other people you love...we are there in spirit! Love you guys!

  6. Continue to Pray for you three. What I have learned about 3 year olds could fill a book. One thing that is so amazing is how resilient they are!!! Truly can go thru almost anything and bounce right back!!! I am sure your love and comfort are filling any places he feels scared, or insecure. I know he can feel how much you both love him!!!~Sue

PS had trouble getting on your blog..just kept trying..finally got back on..glad to hear it wasn't just me?!?

  7. Hey all,
THANKS so much for letting us in our your adventure. Most every post makes me smile and cry. How great is our God that Max is bonding with you guys already.
Hugs and prayers to you all. You were made to be a family...and God's kingdom here will be the richer because of it.

  8. Can't wait to see you guys in action and I can completely and beautifully imagine the team you two make and the ways in which you complement each other, even in parenting. I'm sure there will be a lot of hard times that are off set by those sweet ones as well and may there be sweet ones aplenty! Love the visual image of Max cuddling on Jeff's lap or of him falling asleep sitting up against Angie. If you want me to do any photos once you are back I would love to do that p.s.
